Monika Diaz

Monika Diaz

I joined the WFAA news team in December 2007 after living more than ten years in California.

Prior to coming to News 8, I was a general assignment reporter for four years at KXTV News 10 in Sacramento,California. While in Sacramento, I covered anything and everything. One day, I could be covering politics at the State Capitol and then the next day, I was on my way to do a story on a snow storm in Blue Canyon.

Before News10, I worked at KSTS 48 Telemundo in San Jose, a Spanish language television station where I also covered a wide variety of topics, although immigration was a special focus. At KSTS, I traveled to Mexico to cover the sex scandal involving Catholic priests and the country's reaction to the election of former Mexican President Vicente Fox.

I began my broadcast career began in South Florida at WSVN 7, a Fox affiliate, in 1996. I started as a feed operator, but within a few months, I became a news writer.

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida to Cuban parents and I've been away from home for a long time so as you can imagine, my family is ecstatic about this move to Dallas.

I graduated with honors from Florida State University (Go Seminoles!) with a degree in communications/journalism. I also studied abroad in Florence, Italy in 1993. The six-week semester was unforgettable. During my trip, I visited many cities including Rome, Milan and Naples. Of course, there was a big news event during my stay - a car bombing near the Uffizi Gallery. My roommates and I felt the blast. We were inside our hotel room at the time of the explosion. The hotel was less than three blocks away from the museum.

My number one passion is to travel and I try to plan a big trip each year. On my spare time, I enjoy movies, running, yoga and eating out. So far, I haven't had a bad meal in Texas. Please send me your dining suggestions. I like everything! I am very excited to be here in Dallas and feel free to say hello if you see me out in the field.
