DALLAS — Managers of the Urban Inter-Tribal Center of Texas are making plans to get their roof fixed after part of it collapsed Saturday evening under the weight of heavy rain.
The facility at 209 East Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff features a clinic, job center, and other social services for Native Americans.
Volunteers were there all evening cleaning up the damage.
"Inside the ceiling totally dropped down, so you see the sky looking through the windows," said UITC CEO Rodney Stapp. "When it dropped, it busted out all our front windows."
Clients of the center who have appointments for Monday will be referred to another location.
Parts of North Texas received up to 4 inches of rain during Saturday's downpour. Many streets were inundated at the peak of the storm, and several cars in a parking garage at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas were flooded.
