It was one month ago that tornadoes ripped through several North Texas cities, leaving some of those who watched the destruction to ask what they can do to help themselves.

One option, a safe room in a new house or retrofitted into an existing one can help save your life.

Reinforced walls and roof, and a heavy, metal door help to protect anyone in the room from flying and falling debris. A pantry, a closet, or a small interior room can be easily retrofitted.
