HOUSTON (AP) — Freezing rain and sleet are causing problems in Austin as Central and Southeast Texas braces for a second winter storm in less than a week.

Austin police say the upper decks of Interstate 35 and some flyover ramps have been shut as freezing rain combined with falling temperatures made driving treacherous. Police reported at least 80 traffic wrecks between 5 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

In Houston, there were only scattered reports of freezing rain and traffic was light. Most schools and city and county offices were shut.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Houston, Austin and San Antonio areas until midday, downgrading an earlier winter storm warning for Houston.

In far Southeast Texas, Beaumont authorities closed about a half-dozen traffic bridges.
