Plane crash
SAN ANTONIO — Two people were killed in an airplane crash late Sunday afternoon near Stinson Municipal Airport on the city's southeast side, San Antonio Fire Department officials confirmed.
Twenty-three fire units were dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. following a report of an aircraft accident at 9500 Espada Road, according to the fire department's Web site.
A KENS-TV viewer reported seeing the plane crash near Roosevelt and Loop 410 and sent a photo taken on her cell phone of smoke rising from the area.
The plane reportedly departed on a course toward Fredericksburg, then turned around to try to return to Stinson Airport. The crash site is in a field less than a mile from the airport.
The plane had four seats. Officials could not confirm that the two people who died were the only people on board the plane.
FAA officials were on the scene Sunday evening to try to determine what caused the crash.
