AUSTIN -- The Austin subreddit is an internet community where Austinites share local news, compare stories, give recommendations for wedding photographers and places to live, but over the weekend, it became a place for something else: sharing unpopular opinions about the city they call home.

Posted on Saturday with the headline, "Throwaway time: Express your Unpopular Opinions about things in Austin," redditors shared sometimes not-so-widely held opinions about Austin.

The most popular comment was "I don't care about Toy Joy" from user Flash_Harry.

Many comments featured commentary on Austin’s restaurant scene.

“I feel like many of the employees at the 'hip' places have a superiority complex. Like they're doing you a favor by letting you dine at their place. I've noticed this at places as nice as Qui, all the way down to food trucks. Just because the place you work is featured in every top ten list doesn't make you some waitstaff god. Almost forgot to mention that this is really bad at some bars as well. Rainey street in particular,” nmerrill wrote.

“Food trailer portions are not worth the money,” elfherder wrote.

“I know Rudy's is a chain, but I like their food better than Salt Lick,” xadriancalim wrote.

“The Alamo draft house sucks now the food sucks the movies are the same boring movies all the other theaters show. It used to be awesome but since they brought the Austin locations "in to line" with the other franchised locations it's not worth it,” Sukismeg wrote.

“Taco Deli is overrated. It's just over priced gringo tacos,” just_an_austinite wrote.

Other comments mentioned Austin drivers.

“Drunk driving is endemic and most people have insane ideas for what counts as ‘not drunk,’” elfherder wrote.

“I don't think this one is unpopular but the drivers. Oh my god, the drivers here. Every city has a unique flavor of bad driver but Austin takes the cake. The best way I can describe it is a bunch of small-town drivers caught on city roads. Drivers here seem to have no sense that there are other people on the road,” GnollBelle wrote.

Commenters also had a lot to say about the Austin music scene.

“Live music scene ruined by hipsters who won't stop talking and taking selfies and actually…listen to the music,” therowan wrote.

“I'm not crazy about live music,” mrwalkway32 wrote.

“I get tired of hearing live music at almost every…bar in this city. Sometimes we just want to sit around drinking and talking without all the extra noise,” TXChampagneMassacre wrote.

“There's more live music in New Orleans than Austin. I don't think we deserve to be the live music capital,” RexMinimus wrote.

Another favorite topic? Housing affordability in the Capitol City.

User therowan simply wrote, “Houses too expensive.”

“If you aren't in the tech industry, Austin is a very difficult place to afford a house and children,” Gutierrezjm6 wrote.

And lastly, commenters argued that Austin is no longer “weird.”

“The people and money brought here by the tech industry scrubbed this city of its character and uniqueness. You asked for unpopular...” Newfane wrote.

“Austin is no longer weird. The weird left a long time ago. Can we please stop putting 'Keep Austin Weird' on everything? For that matter, can we just stop with 'Keep Austin <insert hobby>’?” wrote flowers_in_the_ATX.

Maybe their opinions aren’t so unpopular after all.
