AUSTIN (AP) -- The polls have opened across Texas for the primary election runoffs.

Election officials say the polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Texas voters will take another step toward replacing Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who did not seek another term.

GOP Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is offering his 14 years of experience against Ted Cruz, a tea party insurgent running in his first election.

Democrats will choose between former state Rep. Paul Sadler and retired educator Grady Yarbrough.

The runoff winners advance to the Nov. 6 general election.

The primary election was May 29.
