TRAVIS COUNTY -- Mark Norwood pleaded not guilty to the 1988 murder of Debra Baker Thursday morning, according to the Travis Co. District Clerk's Office. The plea took place in the 390th Criminal District Court.

Norwood was found guilty of capital murder in the 1986 death of Christine Morton in March 2013. He was sentenced to life in prison for Morton's death.

Morton's husband, Michael Morton, wrongfully spent 25 years in prison for the crime. DNA evidence eventually cleared him and convicted Norwood.

Baker was beaten to death in her bed two years after Christine Morton's murder. Norwood's hair was found at the crime scene.

The murders appear to be similar. Both women were found in bed with pillows around them, jewelry left untouched on the bedside table, and wallets found on the floor with missing cash.
