KINGWOOD, Texas — There is new progress for a Houston-area mother who lost her arms and legs after delivering her third child.

Katy Hayes' husband decided to have his wife's limbs amputated to save her life after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria.

During her recovery in a Dallas hospital, Hayes told News 8 she is just grateful to be alive.  She wants new arms and legs, so she can enjoy her family more and hold her children.

However, prosthetics are expensive. Arms can cost $7,000 - $70,000 each, and legs can cost $11,000 - $60,000, depending on how computerized they are.

Since our original story aired, viewers have stepped in to help her family.

The Hayes now have a van that is wheelchair-accessible, and another company agreed to donate artificial limbs.

On Tuesday, doctors fitted Katy Hayes for prosthetic arms.  The process was somewhat uncomfortable, and took time, but she was all smiles.

She still has more healing to do before she's ready for artificial legs.
