HOUSTON—A woman shot and killed a home intruder that ended up being her cousin early Sunday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m., two male suspects approached a house at Reid and Helmers in north Houston and shut off the electricity, according to police.
One of the residents went outside to investigate while one of the suspects allegedly went inside in order to rob the house.
A female homeowner who remained inside grabbed a gun, and opened fire when she saw the intruder. She shot him several times while the other suspect escaped on foot.
The man was transported to Ben Taub Hospital where he later died. Police said that the deceased suspect was the homeowner’s cousin, but it isn’t clear whether the woman was aware of the man’s identity at the time of the shooting.
Investigators towed a car that they found parked in the driveway of a house for sale across the street but have not yet verified whether it belonged to the suspects.
