JACKSONVILLE, Texas (AP) — Four people were killed and four others sent to hospitals after a car and pickup truck slammed head-on into each other on an East Texas highway.
The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 79, about seven miles southwest of Jacksonville and about 100 miles southeast of Dallas.
Trooper Clint Stephens of the Texas Department of Public Safety says the car carrying three family members returning from a Round Rock track meet when it was hit by the truck and burst into flames, killing all three occupants.
One of the five people in the truck died on impact, three children were airlifted to a Dallas hospital and a fourth was taken by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center Jacksonville.
No identities or conditions were available.
