SAN ANTONIO — March 6 is a date well known to historians. Exactly 177 years ago, Texans fought their final battle at the Alamo.

Ceremonies took place all day in San Antonio to honor the fallen. The Uriegas family from Fort Worth laid a wreath to honor their ancestors.

One of them — Gregorio Esparza — manned the cannon at the Alamo.

"He, his wife, and children all died there. We wouldn't be standing here if it wasn't for him and his family being there," said Lorrie Uriegas Acuna. "My grandmother talked about it so much, and how proud she was."

The Alamo is also a big draw right now because of the "Victory or Death" letter on display.
