SAN ANTONIO — Police in San Antonio issued an arrest warrant Monday for the 23-year-old man who allegedly gunned down his mother's boyfriend and then fled with his 11-month-old child.
Jonathan Guillen is wanted for murder, and an Amber Alert was issued for his baby, who police said may be in danger.
San Antonio police said the suspect shot his mother's 44-year-old boyfriend multiple times in the stomach at their apartment in the 2300 block of Austin Highway.
Officers were called to the scene around 12:30 a.m. By that time, the suspect had already fled with his 11-month-old boy.
The suspect's mother said her son was just trying to protect her. She said the boyfriend was drunk and wouldn't stop hitting her.
"Tell my son that I'm sorry," the mother said. "If I was more careful about who I got involved with then my son wouldn't be facing what he's now facing."
The name of the deceased man was not immediately released.
Police said an Amber Alert was issued for the boy because police said they feared the child may be in immediate danger.
"My understanding is there was no direct threat toward the baby from the suspect," Sgt. Javier Salazar said. "However, it's still a cause for concern. We still would like to find out where that baby is."
Guillen was described as 5-foot-8-inches tall, weighting 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police said he may be armed.
