HOUSTON –- A man confined to a wheelchair was robbed, dragged, and run over near a gas station in northeast Houston, police said.

The man suffered a few bumps and bruises and was sent to the hospital to get checked out.

According to the Houston Police Department, the crime happened around midnight Tuesday. Police said the incident was first reported as an auto-pedestrian accident on Lyons Avenue near Sam Wilson Street.

Officers said the handicapped man was robbed by someone in a white van. He then grabbed a door handle to try and stop the suspect or suspects, but the robbers didn’t stop. The man was dragged and then partially run over when the driver put the vehicle in reverse.

The victim let go, and the suspects sped off, police said.

There was no early word on the description of the assailants.
