AUSTIN -- The music portion of the South by Southwest Festival began on Tuesday.

The line grew quickly inside the Austin Convention Center early Tuesday morning as people started lining up to get their wristbands and badges.

“There [are] so many people here from all over the world, I'm like 'Oh my god!' There's so much excitement out here. So much to do,” said Diamonda Martinez.

When registration opened at 9 a.m. the crowd filed inside. They filled out registration cards then walked through aisles of rope to get to the gates to pick up their passes. Over the next six days the crowd will take in sounds from across the globe.

“It's cool because you can go from like, Indy rock bands, and then like rap stars that come. You can go from that extreme to that extreme. It's pretty cool. It makes you proud to be an Austinite because you know they all come here,” said Princess Crawford of Austin.

“It's the biggest and the best. Everyone knows about it. Everyone talks about it. Whenever we go home and say that we've been to South by, that's like, it's big news,” said music producer Gareth Stuckey of Australia.

According to the official South by Southwest line-up, shows start at 6 p.m. Tuesday and last until 1:30 a.m. It picks up again Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. Most shows require an official SXSW wristband or badge, however there are also many free shows scheduled throughout the week.
