Poll: Support to eliminate STAAR tests

New poll numbers show strong support to eliminate the STAAR test from curriculums.

The STAAR test determines if students should advance to the next grade level, but it has been plagued with problems.

65 percent of those surveyed voted yes to get rid of the exam while 21 percent said no and 14 percent were unsure. 

This year the vendor was late in delivering scores.

The TEA commissioner also had to cancel the math and reading requirement for all fifth and eighth graders in the state.

An Austin-area state representative will try to pass legislation aimed at changing the state's standardized testing regime when the legislative session kicks off in January.
