Do you agree with John McCaa
The lawsuit aside, I think it's time to end the public roasting of Paula Deen. It's this week's "Uncut Commentary."
On more than one occasion - in letters, email and in person - I have been on the receiving end of epithets and insults like the one chef Paula Deen admitted she fired off. Some apologized, some did not.
So, no, I don't agree with what she said or how she said it, but that's the past. The questions should be: What is she saying now; did she learn from it and does she mean it?
Now, from Deen we're hearing, 'Forgive me, I'm sorry for the hurt I've caused, for thoughts and ideas I had that were inconsistent with the person you thought you knew.'
We're also hearing a willingness to understand and to change. Only time will tell if she is sincere. I take it she is.
All week, there's been a good deal of piling on from individuals, organizations and companies eager to trash Deen for her mistakes.
But, few are willing to admit if spewing or thinking racial insults without remorse is a crime we'd just about all be on death row.
