MCKINNEY - A large fire that engulfed construction vehicles and sent large black smoke billowing into the area has been extinguished at State Highway 121 and Central Expressway in McKinney.
Witnesses reported the explosion at about 8:30 a.m. McKinney police said the blaze is at a construction site where a backhoe accidentally hit a high-pressure natural gas line.
All workers are reported to be okay.
"I could hear the noise of the fire coming from my bedroom," said Keith Jackson, a witness who lives at the Fairways at Wilson Creek Apartment complex near the site of the explosion. "It turned off all the power. We stepped out onto the porch and you could see the fire coming out from the top of our apartment complex."
Vehicles, including a truck and large construction vehicle, could be seen engulfed in flames at the site.
Power was out across the area, but was reported to be restored around 9:50 a.m.
