RICHARDSON -- Traffic was backed up in Richardson Friday morning after a semi truck caught fire, shutting down lanes of a major highway during rush hour.

Around 6:40 a.m. the 18-wheeler, hauling sand, hit a median on southbound U.S. 75 near President George Bush Turnpike and exploded.

The driver of the truck was able to get out and is said to be fine. No other vehicles were involved.

Southbound lanes of U.S. 75 were closed, as well as the northbound HOV lane, as crews cleaned up the scene.

Plano police say the driver, identified as Kukic Jasmin, will be charged with failure to control speed.
