DALLAS - Featuring dozens of concession stands, restaurants and an art gallery, the first 11 gates of the new terminal at Dallas Love Field were unveiled to airport employees during an open house ceremony Wednesday.

The upgraded terminal is part of a five-year plan to modernize Love Field, which was last renovated in the 1990s.

"I hope that people will discover that travel is fun again," said Bob Montgomery, a Southwest Airlines executive. "It's been under such assault since 9/11. People will come here and they will be in an environment that they love."

The terminal opens to the public on Tuesday.

"I wouldn't mind getting stuck at this airport for several hours," said Eric Olivero, an employee at the airport. "There's things to do."

The overall project is expected to be complete in 2014.

Nearly half of the artwork, which was funded by the Love Field Modernazation Program, was created by artists from Dallas.
