Logan Airport
7:59 am
American Airlines Flight 11 departs 14 minutes late from Logan International Airport, bound for LA. Five hijackers are aboard.
Logan Airport
8:14 am
United Airlines Flight 175, another fully-fueled Boeing 767, carrying 56 passengers and nine crew members, departs from Boston Logan airport, also bound for Los Angeles. Five hijackers are aboard.
Washington Dulles Airport
8:20 am
American Airlines Flight 77, a Boeing 757 with 58 passengers and six crew members, departs from Washington Dulles for Los Angeles. Five hijackers are aboard.
Newark Airport
8:42 am
United Airlines Flight 93, a Boeing 757, takes off with 37 passengers and seven crew members from Newark International Airport, following a 40-minute delay due to congested runways. Four hijackers are aboard.
World Trade Center North Tower
8:46 am
Flight 11 crashes at roughly 466 mph into the north face of the North Tower (1 WTC) of the World Trade Center, between floors 93 and 99, killing everyone on board and hundreds within the building.
WNYW-TV
8:48 am
The first television report of an incident at the World Trade Center is broadcast locally in New York by WNYW-TV less than two minutes after the plane crashed into the North Tower.
Sarasota, Florida
8:50 am
White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card tells U.S. President George w. Bush that a plane has hit the World Trade Center. The President is visiting an elementary school in Sarasota, Florida.
World Trade Center South Tower
9:03 am
Flight 175 crashes at about 590 mph (950 km/h) into the south face of the South Tower (2 WTC) of the World Trade Center, banked between floors 77 and 85. By this time, the major broadcast networks are covering the first plane crash—and millions see the second impact live.
The Pentagon
9:37 am
Flight 77 crashes into the western side of the Pentagon and starts a violent fire. The section of the Pentagon hit consists mainly of newly renovated, unoccupied offices. All 64 people on board are killed, as are 125 Pentagon personnel.
The Capitol
9:45 am
Evacuations begin at the White House and Capitol building.
9:37 am
Thirteen of Flight 93’s 40 passengers and crew managed to alert loved ones and authorities to the planes hijacking. Flight 93’s passengers are believed to have collectively voted to mount a counterattack to the hijackers.
World Trade Center
9:59 am
After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower collapses in 10 seconds, killing approximately 600 workers and first responders in the building and surrounding area.
Somerset County
10:03 am
United Airlines Flight 93 is crashed by its hijackers and passengers, due to fighting in the cockpit 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

World Trade Center North Tower
10:28 am
The North Tower collapses after burning for 102 minutes, killing approximately 1,400 in the building and surrounding area.
Lower Manhattan
11:02 am
New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani calls for the evacuation of over one million residents, workers and tourists from Lower Manhattan.
American Airspace cleared
12:16 pm
The last commercial flight above the continental United States lands.
7 World Trade Center
5:20 pm
World Trade Center Building 7 collapses after burning for hours.
Presidential Address
8:30 pm
President George W. Bush addresses the nation.
