Inside Texas Politics (10/09/16)

Democratic U.S. Rep Marc Veasey joins ITP to discuss Hillary Clinton's chances in Texas.

U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Texas, unleashes on Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump during an interview with host Jason Whitely and Bud Kennedy of the Star-Telegram. The second presidential debate tonight is a town hall format where citizens will question the candidates. Some suggest that could benefit Hillary Clinton because of her deep knowledge of policy. Alana Rocha, in for Ross Ramsey at the Texas Tribune, discussed whether Clinton really benefits and if Donald Trump is in danger of losing any support from Texas Republican women over past comments he has made. (Don't see video? Last week, this program focused on the high school athletes in DeSoto who refuse to stand during the national anthem. That got a lot of people talking including Ed Gray from the Commish Radio Show. He makes his point in My Voice, My Opinion. (Don't see video? Tap here.)

After Congressman Marc Veasey’s interview, the program reached out for a conservative perspective. Vinny Minchillo creates television commercials for Republican candidates. He's a principal at Glass House Strategies and discussed what Veasey did not address, whether controversy around Trump gives Democrats false hope and why he said he thinks the town hall debate will actually benefit Trump more than Clinton. (Don't see video? Millennials loved Bernie Sanders but now Clinton and Trump both want the youth vote. But can either side really rely on it? This morning, Flashpoint picks apart that demographic. From the right, Mark Davis of 660 AM The Answer and from the left, author and producer, Katie Sherrod. (Don't see video? Tap here.)

Reporters Roundtable puts the headlines in perspective each week. Bud and Alana returned to discuss new disturbing revelations about Children’s Protective Services, how the legislature might address it, former Dallas Republican Mayor Steve Bartlett’s opposition to his party’s presidential nominee, and why Texas is not doing more to protect Houston from hurricanes. (Don't see video?
