DALLAS – American taxpayers give billions of dollars to other nations each year. This issue has swelled recently as the scenes in the Middle East creep into living rooms across the country.
In Egypt on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, a radical Islamist group attacked the U.S. Embassy and tore down the American flag.
In Libya on the same day, an assault on the U.S. Consulate that the Obama administration now deems a terrorist attack resulted in the deaths of American Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others.
After the attack, Libyans showed off the ambassador’s body on camera.
According to the Congressional Research Service, the United States sent almost $1.6 billion to Egypt, the fifth largest amount sent to any nation. It’s now run by the Muslim Brotherhood.
Libya also received $2.5 million from American taxpayers, an amount some now argue should be kept in the states rather than sent abroad.
