WASHINGTON (AP) — Susan Rice is withdrawing from consideration to be secretary of state. That announcement comes today from the White House. The U.N. ambassador had emerged as the administration's choice to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton when she leaves that post. But Rice ran into opposition from Republicans angry over her explanation of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in September. In the days after the attack, she said it had stemmed from a protest over an anti-Islamic video -- an assessment that later proved incorrect.
