After raising questions about President Obama's eligibility to be president, Donald Trump appears to be side-stepping a similar issue.

On ABC's "This Week" program broadcast Sunday morning, Trump was asked whether Texas Sen. Ted Cruz would be eligible to run for president because he born north of the border.

"Well, if he was born in Canada, perhaps not, but I'm not sure where he was born," Trump said.

When ABC correspondent Jonathan Karl informed Trump that Cruz was definitely born in Canada, the billionaire replied: "Well, then you'll have to ask him that question, but perhaps not."

Trump said he believes any controversy about Cruz will be "ironed out."

Cruz's mother was an American, making him an American citizen.

Trump has long been on the record blasting President Obama for failing to produce a birth certificate, claiming he may not have been born in Hawaii.
