Filing for upcoming elections begins today.

Dallas and Fort Worth voters will soon be deciding on a new mayor.

Just last week, Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief announced he will end his eight year run as the city’s leader. Three people have already announced possible candidacies for the position. Cathy Hirt, Jim Lane and Betsy Price have all said they are interested the soon to be vacant spot.

Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert is not seeking re-election either. Former Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle said he is running.

Several council members have already said they will not seek the spot. Last week councilwoman Angela Hunt announced she is not running for mayor. Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway announced last month he is not seeking the top spot.

There also are a number of positions open in several North Texas cities.
