FORT WORTH — Within hours after Thursday's tearful announcement from Mayor Mike Moncrief that he would not seek a fifth term, possible candidates to replace him lined up.
They field includes former Fort Worth City Council member Cathy Hirt.
"Our schools have unacceptably high dropout rates and we have some very serious environmental issues," Hirt said.
Current Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Betsy Price is also a candidate. "Mike has done a great job," she said. "His shoes will be hard to fill, but he started Fort Worth down the right road."
The third candidate to announce his intentions is Fort Worth attorney Jim Lane.
Candidates have until next month to file their paperwork. The election is on May 14.
