In this week’s Inside Texas Politics, the panel analyzed Friday night's Belo Debate featuring prominent candidates for U.S. Senate in the May 29 Republican primary.

This week’s panel: Gromer Jeffers, political writer with The Dallas Morning News; Christy Hoppe, Austin bureau chief of The Dallas Morning News; Bud Kennedy, columnist with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram; and Dallas Morning News columnist and talk radio host Mark Davis.

The stakes Friday night could lieutenant governor David Dewhurst, the frontrunner, do to avoid hurting himself and convincingly defend himself from attacks from the three others.

Former Texas solicitor general Ted Cruz led the way on those attacks.

Two days before the debate Craig James announced Cruz sent him a text message urging him to ask a set up questions in the candidate-to-candidate questions so Cruz could criticize Dewhurst on not attend most candidate forums.

These issues and more are discussed with the panel.
