AUSTIN — Texas Gov. Rick Perry used a pro-life rally in Austin Saturday to announce his newest push for lawmakers.
The rally marked the 38th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.
"Today I'm pleased to announce I'm designating the sonogram bill an emergency item for the 82nd legislative session," the governor said.
The bill would require women to view a sonogram of their unborn child before getting an abortion.
The emergency designation means lawmakers will be able to vote on the bill sooner than they ordinarily could.
Similar pro-life rallies were held in Dallas and in other cities across the country.
