DALLAS — The two Republicans in a runoff for the Texas lieutenant governor nomination have agreed to appear in a live online roundtable debate to be produced by WFAA-TV.

Incumbent David Dewhurst will face off against challenger Dan Patrick in the webcast on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m., to be hosted by WFAA political reporter and "Inside Texas Politics" host Jason Whitely.

The 45-minute debate will be streamed live on WFAA.com and a network of other Gannett websites around the state, including KHOU.com in Houston; KENS5.com in San Antonio; and KVUE.com in Austin.

WFAA media partners the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Texas Tribune will also relay the live discussion on their websites.

A 30-minute version of the debate will be broadcast on WFAA's Inside Texas Politics at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 11 on Channel 8.

Patrick, a Texas state senator, won the March 4 primary with 42 percent of the vote, but failed to win a majority in the four-man race. Dewhurst has been the state's lieutenant governor since January, 2003.
