FORT WORTH — Bob Bolen, Fort Worth's longest-serving mayor, died at his home early Monday morning.
He was the city's mayor from 1982 to 1991. Alliance Airport, the American Airlines maintenance facility, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing all rose up in Fort Worth under his leadership.
After leaving City Hall, Bolen continued to serve on city committees and boards. He also advised TCU's chancellor.
Bob Bolen was 87 years old. His motto in life was simple: "Always leave a place better than you found it."
Current Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price released this statement: "We have heavy hearts today as we learned of the passing of our dear friend and Fort Worth hero. He was the true People's Mayor, and lived by his motto."
Greenwood Funeral Home was handling arrangements for services.
