Poll:
Should the City of Dallas ban plastic bags?

DALLAS — The City of Dallas will again consider a ban on plastic bags, if one City Council member has anything to say about it.

Dwaine Caraway wants the city to follow Austin's lead and ban the single-use bags. He's asked the city attorney to draft an ordinance immediately.

"I think it should be the responsibility of the grocery store to provide the types of bags that are environmentally friendly, and do not trash up the neighborhood and the community," Caraway said.

Caraway wants to present his proposal to the Council for review as soon as Tuesday.

The issue recently got almost 500 signatures on an Internet petition.
