DALLAS — The new Dallas City Council took the oath of office on Monday in a ceremony at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center.

Five new faces joined nine returning members.

One of the new faces is Jennifer Staubach Gates, daughter of Cowboys legend Roger Staubach. She represents District 13.

Mayor Mike Rawlings praised the energy of the new Council, but he also took a jab at Gov. Rick Perry for failing to support the new Affordable Health Care Act.

"Regardless of what is being said in Austin, I'm asking all of you to join me in reaching out to the community to get our uninsured residents the health insurance they need and they deserve," Rawlings said. "It is the right thing to do for Dallas."

The mayor also praised the growth of Dallas, saying the city's international reputation is expanding.
