Dallas City councilwoman Angela Hunt will not run for mayor of Dallas.
She shared her decision exclusively with News 8 on Wednesday morning.
Hunt said the timing was not right and that she felt she could better reach her goals for the city as a city councilwoman.
"This is about what is best for the city of Dallas," said Hunt. "I believe the next mayor needs to be someone who comes from outside city council."
She said a fresh approach would give the city effective leadership.
Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway said he would not run for the seat last month, just days after current Mayor Tom Leppert announced he would not seek reelection.
Former Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle has already filed paperwork to run for mayor.
