OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Some of Oklahoma's most notable wrestlers are visiting the Capitol to show their opposition to the International Olympic Committee's recommendation to eliminate the sport from the Summer Olympic Games.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Oklahoma State University wrestling coach John Smith will be among several Olympic medal winners and collegiate national champion wrestlers expected to visit the Capitol Wednesday.
They oppose a decision made earlier this year by the executive board of the IOC to dump wrestling from the 2020 Olympics.
The wrestlers are supporting a resolution by Stillwater Republican Rep. Lee Denney urging the IOC to reinstate wrestling as a "core sport of the Summer Olympic Games."
