AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Sarah Palin and a host of tea party all-stars are converging on Houston for a get-out-the-vote bash in honor of U.S. Senate hopeful Ted Cruz.
The former Alaska governor will join South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint and top leaders from tea party groups around Texas at a Friday night rally in the Woodlands ahead of Cruz's July 31 runoff with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst
Dewhurst won the Texas primary but failed to capture a majority in a nine-Republican field for the party's nomination to replace retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Cruz has received millions of dollars from conservative groups who have branded Dewhurst too moderate — even though the lieutenant governor is the mainstream GOP choice.
Dewhurst tentatively plans to also be in Houston on Friday, campaigning with voters.
