WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden is scoffing at Mitt Romney's criticism of President Barack Obama over a remark Obama was overheard making to Russia's leader on an open microphone.

During their recent meeting on the sidelines of a nuclear summit in Seoul, South Korea, Obama was heard telling Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (dih-MEE'-tree med-VYEH'-dyev) that he'd have more latitude on missile defense issues after the November general election.

Front-running Republican presidential candidate Romney said Obama's remarks were "alarming" and suggested that he was appeasing the Russians.

Biden tells CBS' "Face the Nation" that Obama was merely "stating the obvious" He says Romney's comment that Russia is America's "No. 1 geopolitical foe" shows the Republican frontrunner is either "uninformed or stuck in a Cold War mentality."
