DALLAS -- A convicted sex offender who fled from a Dallas halfway house and cut off the electronic monitoring device he was required to wear has been caught in south Florida.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says 33-year-old Billy Twayne Gibson was captured Friday morning at a hotel in Miami Springs. DPS says a tip led to Gibson. A car reported stolen in Navarro County has been located.
DPS on Thursday announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Gibson, who fled Aug. 28 from the Wayback House.
A warrant was issued on a charge of failure to comply with civil commitment requirements, a third-degree felony. Gibson's criminal history includes sexual assault of a child and aggravated robbery.
Gibson was on the DPS list of Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives.
