PROVO, Utah (AP) — A 17-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to a dozen charges stemming from a crime rampage that left a Utah deputy dead and another deputy injured.
Meagan Grunwald appeared in a Provo courtroom Monday morning to enter her plea to charges of murder, attempted murder and other counts. She is being charged as an adult.
Her attorney Dean Zabriskie says Grunwald will testify in her own defense that her 27-year-old boyfriend forced her at gunpoint to participate in the crime rampage.
Prosecutors say her boyfriend, Angel Garcia-Juaregui, is the one who shot the deputies, but they believe Grunwald participated in the police chase and a carjacking.
Garcia-Juaregui died from injuries he sustained in a shootout with police.
