The Associated Press has hired statehouse reporters in Idaho and Montana.

Kimberlee Kruesi will join the AP in Boise, and Lisa Baumann will be in Helena. Both start May 5. The hires were announced Monday by AP West Region Editor Traci Carl.

For the past three years, Kruesi has worked for the Times-News in Twin Falls, Idaho, covering city government, the environment and, most recently, the state Legislature. Prior to that, she worked for six months as a watchdog intern at The San Diego Union-Tribune, submitting records requests and using Excel to analyze data.

Baumann most recently worked as a statehouse reporter for the AP in Olympia, Wash. She also helped cover the deadly mudslide that killed several dozen people northeast of Seattle. Before joining the AP, Baumann was a reporter, photographer and editor at AOL/Patch in Minnesota and Washington state. She also previously worked for the Ravalli Republic in Montana, the Duluth News Tribune and the Pine Journal in Cloquet, Minn.

"Kimberlee and Lisa are both accomplished photographers and strong reporters who know how to make sources and break news," Carl said. "We are excited to have them join the AP."
