WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. and China will hold talks next week about North Korea, which recently threatened to conduct another nuclear test.

The State Department announced Friday that the U.S. special representative for North Korea policy, Glyn Davies, will host his Chinese counterpart, Wu Dawei.

They will meet in New York for two days starting Monday, and then again in Washington on Thursday.

The U.S. views Chinese cooperation as key to tempering North Korean behavior and getting it to disarm. It has sought discussions with Wu in the U.S. for months.

China has been more critical of its wayward North Korean ally in the past year.

But Deputy Secretary of State William Burns this week acknowledged China remains reluctant to push North Korea too hard due to longstanding fears of possible instability.
