LOS ANGELES (AP) — The father of a man suspected of shooting up a Los Angeles police station and wounding an officer says his son wanted to be a cop.
Danny Yealu tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1gJipWJ ) that his son, Daniel, was a security guard who mentioned last year that he'd applied to a police academy.
Police say Yealu walked into a police station Monday night, told an officer "I have a complaint," and opened fire with a handgun.
He was critically wounded by a desk officer who also was wounded.
Police say Yealu had an assault rifle in the car and other guns and cases filled with ammunition were found at his home. Records show Yealu had a gun permit last year but it was cancelled.
His father says there were no warning signs before the shooting.
