PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police say a Pennsylvania prosecutor and his wife severely mistreated their adopted Ethiopian children.

Police say a doctor found the couple's 6-year-old boy malnourished and with skin lesions and their 18-month-old girl had signs of multiple skull fractures.

Deputy Attorney General Douglas Barbour, who works out of the Pittsburgh office, and his wife, Kristen, were arraigned Friday on charges, including aggravated assault, stemming from the treatment of their children.

Allegheny County police say they began an investigation after the children saw a doctor Sept. 14 and the boy was admitted to the hospital. Court documents say a doctor has recommended that the children have no contact with their parents.

Chris Capozzi, a lawyer representing the Barbours, has declined comment.

The couple are scheduled for an Oct. 9 preliminary hearing.
