PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police have charged one man in the robbery-related slaying of an off-duty officer and urged an alleged teen accomplice to turn himself in.
Police say they've charged 23-year-old Rafael Jones with murder and robbery in the death last weekend of Officer Moses Walker Jr.
At a news conference Friday, police identified 19-year-old Chancier McFarland of North Philadelphia as the accomplice seen on security videos.
Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says McFarland should surrender before a police SWAT team finds him.
Investigators believe two men approached Walker from behind and announced a robbery as he walked to a bus stop in civilian clothes at about 6 a.m., after his shift. Police say the veteran officer could only draw his gun before he was shot three times.
