Falcon Lake
ZAPATA, Texas (AP) — Search teams are combing a lake on the U.S.-Mexico border for an American tourist shot in the head after being ambushed by suspected pirates.
Texas Parks & Wildlife Department spokesman Mike Cox said Friday that authorities resumed searching the U.S. side of Falcon Lake for David Michael Hartley. The 30-year-old was shot Thursday after his wife told police they were fired upon in Mexican waters.
Hartley's wife, Tiffany, told authorities she circled back for her husband but fled after hearing bullets whizzing by her. She fled on her Jet Ski back to U.S. soil.
Cox said the state will issue an advisory Friday warning boaters to stay on the U.S. side of the lake.
Cox says there have been at least five run-ins with pirates on Falcon Lake this year.
