LEWISVILLE — Lewisville police say a 25-year-old man shot himself inside Vista Ridge Mall late Monday afternoon after an argument with a female acquaintance who is a mall employee.

The employee works at a kiosk, and called mall security during the argument. Security officers were escorting the man from the shopping center when he pulled a gun from his clothes and shot himself, police said.

"He did not display the weapon toward anyone else," said Lewisville police Capt. Kevin Deaver. "He wasn't threatening anyone in any matter."

Mall employees were ordered not to speak to the media, but several described chaos. They said people began running as they spotted the gun and heard a shot.

Many were visibly shaken as they realized the man had taken his own life. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Medical Center of Lewisville. His name was not released.

Shopper Angel Luna was inside a short time later.

"Just very somber in there. Everybody was very quiet," she said.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Monday. Vista Ridge Mall never closed. Vista Ridge Mall is just north of Highway 121 on Interstate 35E, 18 miles northwest of downtown Dallas.
