Texas State student killed in bus accident

Texas State Student Dragged 500 feet by bus

BURLESON - A young woman from Burleson was struck and killed by a shuttle bus late Friday night near San Marcos, authorities say.

Jordin Taylor, 20, was a freshman at Texas State University, and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, according to the university.

Taylor was at a fraternity party at the Cool River Ranch concert venue Friday night, the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Department said in a press release. The facility also rents river tubes.

At 11:15 p.m., a shuttle bus lost its air brakes and was left parked where it stopped, the release said. The next morning, Taylor's body was found underneath the bus by a mechanic.

The Sheriff's Department now believes Taylor came into contact with the bus and was dragged over 500 feet. They said that it appears to be an accident, though they are asking for anyone with information about the incident to contact the department.

Multiple calls to the Cool River Amphitheater were not returned.

Her father, Joey Taylor, called the incident a tragedy and said that he has been in shock since the call.  He was returning from San Marcos Monday night after traveling to the location where his daughter died.

"You send your kid off to school and you don't anticipate that they're not coming back," Taylor said in a phone interview.

He said that the family is now focused on returning Jordin's body to North Texas and making funeral arrangements.

It's the second tragedy for the family in recent years.  In 2012, Jordin's mother died unexpectedly of a brain tumor with herniation.

Family friends said that Jordin was a positive, upbeat person who brought joy to those around her.

"She had the most unique laugh you would have ever heard," said Peggy Gibson, a family friend who's daughter was close to Jordin. "Anytime you saw her, there was a smile on her face."
