PASADENA, Texas — A 5-year-old girl who was trapped in a washing machine was accidentally locked in by a friend, police said Wednesday.
The little girl was playing with another girl at Le's Washateria when the 5-year-old crawled into a machine that was supposed to be out of order. Her friend accidentally locked the door.
Police still aren't sure just how the rinse cycle started. A fast-acting employee cut the breaker to stop the machine.
"I would say she's a very fortunate young lady," said Pasadena Police spokesman Vance Mitchell.
Police say no one was watching, not even the girl's mother, when she got locked in a washer.
"She spun around for several minutes, at a high speed, tumbling pretty fast," Mitchell said. "It was pretty bad."
Customers of the laundromat are shocked, but not surprised. They say kids run wild in there all the time.
"It's not their fault, it's the parents fault," said long-time customer Maria Romero. "They're running around, they don't listen, just don't listen. The kids run around and bump into you and your clothes."
The little girl was pretty banged up, but is expected to recover. Pasadena police do not expect to file any charges in this case.
