CROWLEY — How many times have you seen those Publishers Clearing House commercials where someone wins a big prize?

Perhaps you've wondered: "Can that be real?"

Maxine Richeson, an elderly Crowley woman down on her luck, found out Tuesday afternoon.

We've seen it hundreds of times on TV: The Publishers Clearing House van pulls up and someone carrying an oversized check walks up to the door to deliver the prize.

But this isn't a commercial; it's real.

Very real for the Richeson family.

Richeson wasn't home for that fateful knock on the door, but a call quickly summoned her from the doctor's office and presented her with that big check for $30,000.

"Thank God, thank God! My home is falling apart, it really is," she said. "We've had so much bad luck."

In case, you are wondering, Richeson said she's been playing the Publishers Clearing House contest for more than 20 years, and her win couldn't come at a better time.
