ARLINGTON — Police in Arlington have reached out to the public in their search for a suspect in the deadly shooting of a clerk at a shoe store Tuesday afternoon.
Arlington police said they suspect robbery was the motive behind the crime.
Witnesses said they heard a number of shots near the Red Wing Shoes store in the 3100 block of South Cooper Street shortly before 2 p.m.
When police arrived, they found the front door of the shoe store locked. The back door was ajar, and they found an employee estimated to be in his younger 20s dead inside. The identity of the victim hasn't been released.
"It's very unfortunate that sometimes that happens during a robbery," said Sgt. Jeff Houston. "We ask anyone who was in the area between noon and two who saw something suspicious to reach out to police."
Police released surveillance video and camera photographs of the suspect and what was described as an older model Toyota Tacoma extended cab pickup truck they say may be connected to the crime.
"I ran out front of the store. Someone had called 911, and the door was locked," he said.
Stores in the strip mall do have surveillance video cameras. Police said it was too early to know if anything noteworthy was in that footage.
Police have asked anyone with information pertaining to the crime call Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS (8477) or Arlington police at 817-459-5300.
